Nominator's project description
| Professor Santos is a leading scientist in the research on the renin-angiotensin system. He discovered the new peptides of the system, angiotensin 1-7 and alamandine, and revealed that the seven-transmembrane proteins Mas and Mas-related gene D (MrgD) are their receptors, respectively. He also defined angiotensin 1-7 and Mas as protective factors in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and developed drugs targeting them. In Germany he will continue his studies on the physiological role of alamandine and Mrgd. |
